Become A Client
When you become a client of Coutts, you will be part of an exclusive network.
And Coutts has been their indispensable partner since the company’s earliest days. Like us, they embody the importance of heritage, innovation, attention to detail and a focus on the customer.
It all started when a young, Shropshire-born James Poole ventured to London and worked as linen draper, before establishing himself as a tailor of military tunics for officers during the Napoleonic war. By the time of the Battle of Waterloo, James was the preeminent military tailor in London.
Later, his son Henry put his own stamp on the company, channelling his charisma and passion for the worlds of racing and the aristocracy. He went on to become what we would recognise today as a ‘celebrity tailor’, at the heart of fashionable society. In 1846, he was the first tailor to establish a shop front on Savile Row – in fact the back entrance of his Burlington Street workshop – establishing it as the centre of men’s tailoring in London, if not the world.
