It all began with the french revolution
We’ve been supporting clients from around the world since the 18th century. During the French Revolution, many aristocrats fled to England. Thomas Coutts, leader of our bank, offered the émigrés financial aid and helped them exchange jewels for much-needed cash. As a result, Coutts created the French Department – our first specialist international team.
